Collars
I would just like to ask if your dogs wear their collars at all times or just when going out. Is their any evidence to such that wearing them at all times aggrevates or restricts them in any way. Thanks.

Re: Collars
The advantage to keeping a collar on your dog at all time is if they happen to get out the front door or out of the garden they have ID on them. They should be microchipped anyways but it is against the law for your dog not to have visible ID when out in public. Mine are chipped and they have a tag on their collar that simply says they are chipped and to please scan for it. Nothing else that can be read by a seemingly innocent admirer while petting that can link the dogs to their address for later theft. The only time mine do not wear collars is when they are in their crates as this poses a hazard. There have been cases where the collar has somehow gotten hooked up on the crate and in their effort to get free the collar got twisted and tightened until they choked to death. Some dogs get a bad chaffing from the collar and usually this is due to one of 2 things, either the dog is allergic to what the collar is made of or it is not fitter properly. It should be snug enough to be able to just fit 2 or 3 fingers under it. Too loose and it moves around on the neck rubbing the fur and irritating the skin. Hope this helped.

Re: Collars
Jadie only wears her collar when she goes out. We take it off her in the house because when we got her she was bald under her chin from where her collar had been rubbing and its better now. Shes not the type to leg it through an open door so we dont have to worry.x

Re: Collars
Angel & Yazmin only wear their collars on their walks. We have a front garden which is secure so they don't need to wear them any other time. They're both microchipped as well.
My two play fight once their collars go on and trail each other about with them when off lead on their walks so I prefer to keep them off in the house.

Re: Collars
Thanks for all your replies. Think I will continue to keep Lily's collar on. Although she is microchipped, as she is free to go in and out of the house through the dog flap there is always a risk (albeit small) she may jump the fence.

Re: Collars
Murdoch only wears his out and about - he is chipped and not one to leg it.
I always giggle to myself when I take the collar off that he is now "nude" - I'm quite childish really!
