Nail Clipping Empty Nail Clipping

Do you do this yourself or do you get the vet to do it. Igot the vet to show me first time round and then have always done it myself but whenever i do it they seem to be 10 times shaper. She also seems to get small amount of nail splitting. Not enough to be concerned about though.

Are brittle nails in dogs a sign of deficiany like in humans? and does anyone else have this problem?

I always take Jade to the vet for them to do it. He has showed me how to do it but I'm too nervous in case I cut them too short and hurt her. xx

Kane has always had probs with his nails and when I clip even the smallest amount the vein is right there and he bleeds. I recently got a rechargable rotary tool and grind them down. If I were to go a bit too far the grinder goes so fast it would cauterize it right away. Now he lays on his back and sleeps while i do his nails, no stress at all. I almost have his nails down to where the should be and the vein shrunk back. His grow really fast though so I have to really stay on top of it.

They aren't really a breed which needs its nails clipped after they get past the initial puppy stage. They shouldn't be flat on their feet so they should wear their nails down more than enough naturally. I wouldn't want to ever clip any of my dogs nails because they are always worn down pretty short anyway.
