Stiffness Empty Stiffness

Post by Guest Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:04 am

Jadey loves nothing more than a good run off the lead after her balls but when she gets home and lies down for a bit she gets really stiff and hobbles round like an old woman!!! She has trouble jumping up onto the bed and you can see that her legs aren't doing what she wants them to - has anyone got any recommendations for what I could give her to help?

I would speak to the vet about joint stiffness hun they can probaly help, how old is jade now? Arthritis and hip dysplasia (prob not spelt right) could be the cause but having said that stiffness happens to us all. If Jade is carrying any extra weight this will aggravate the issue. Would def recommend speaking to the vet though hun x

I'll take her the weekend - I just assumed that it was a common problem and was nothing to worry about. Thanks Krissi.xx

Parsley is supposed to be really good for preventing arthritis, so my dogs get plenty. I don't know if it will do anything or not. Otherwise the vets can give a cartrophen injection which can help immensely. There are about 20% of dogs which it won't work for though.

I reccomend Hydrotherapy it can become costly but preventation and helping ahtritis I can gurantee would do Jade the world of good.
Having had arthritis at 6 I had loads of physio etc but Hydrotherapy was the only thing that helped now my hip has no pain at all. Your vets should know of some hydro and swimming places local it would also help her shed a few pounds and tone up if she has to take weight off

hi i agree with kyle, swimming is great as it is non weight bearing, this is what my mum did with her old gsd and it helped loosen him up and eased pain. good luck.
