Do you prefer the staffies that met the breed standard pre 1948:

Gentleman Jim
Pre 1948 or now? GENTJIM
Pre 1948 or now? Ch__Gentleman_Jim_04

Lady Eve
Pre 1948 or now? Ladyeve-1
Pre 1948 or now? Ladyeve

Or the staffy of today?

I am happy with todays standard but I still have to say that I am not AS keen on the 14" smaller staffies. I feel that some are bred today too bully with really short muzzles. I like height to be at or around 16" and not all barrel!! Having said that I love them all its just personal preference!

Whats your feelings on this?

Hard to say really, I have seen some pre-'48 dogs that would put some of todays to shame even going by todays standards. For the most part I prefer todays standard better especially where the head is concerned. The only thing I really don't like is the current trend toward a more terrier look which some judges seem to be choosing simply because a few have commented on the breed getting a bit too bully. In a sense it was but I don't feel going the extreme opposite is the answer either. Don't both the pre and current standards both call for a 50/50 blend?

Mine have to be the pre 1948's as the staffies nowadays are looking more and more like pigs, their snouts are too short, they are very small and some are over bulky which to me is not a staffordshire bull terrier but thats just my opinion.

Thats a hard question my opinion is todays standards are too short in the snout and starting to look way to bully! it should be a perfect 50%Bully 50% terrier right? if so what are these judges doing picking the more bully like staff? I think the current judges are starting to ruin the breed by picking the 3quarters bully-staff. Thats my opinion.

Actually I think pre 1948 the biggest percentage of staffs had too long of muzzles with only a sloping stop. Also there was a wide range of types whereas post change the "type" has become more consistent. Not soon after the change in standard there became a more definite stop and a shorter muzzle and stronger underjaw but not to the extreme it got to in the last 10 years. The muzzle should only make up 1/3 of the total length of head from tip of nose to the back of the head. Anything shorter is far too bully, anything longer is as equally out of proportion as being to short is bully.
