I used to give Jadey sardines but she went off them - I know what he means about the smell though!! I had the lovely job of dishing it up as well!!! :D

I have only just recently found out from Deb (Engladian) that the oil in fish isn't particularly good for dogs and you should give them flaxseed oil.xx

I do give Roxy sardines occasionally, i hate the smell to but she does love them. I have just started with the flaxseed oil. Great fun trying to get her to eat the capsule (she ain't silly!!)

Cut a tiny hole in the end of the capsule and squeeze it over the food, she won't know its there. I give them whole to Kane in his food but then he would swallow a golf ball whole if I hid it in food. oink oink

I think I will try that instead Deb, the snidey cowbag keeps hiding the capsules under her tongue and then spitting them out!

I just went thru that with giving Kane a worm tab. Shoved it near halfway down his throat and he still managed to cough it up. Got my thumb knuckle crunched a bit in the process and after several tries my son said why don't I just stick it in his meal, I did, and as usual it all went down whole...tab and all.

Good old Kane!! Has he always been so good with his food. How many pups were in his litter. Roxy was only one of 3 and one got taken away early (5 weeks - stupid people!) so I wonder if its because she never really had to fight for her food so she just picks at it when she feels like it. Do you free feed?

No I NEVER free feed any of my animals....makes for poor eating habits and as well you can never be sure of exactly how much they have eaten in a given day if asked by the vet under any unforseen circumstances. Yes Kane was from a litter of 9 but 1 didn't make it, but still 8 is a large litter with lots of competition for sure. Also I didn't get him till he was 5 months and there were still 6 there including Kane to shove and push at the dish with, so it very well could have made a difference. I have just never put up with fussiness when it comes to feeding tho. We learned in vet nurse course that a healthy dog will never let itself starve to death, might be stubborn, but will eventually give in and eat. So whatever I put down is what they get...take it or leave it. It's there for a max of 10 mins in the morning then taken away till dinner at 5. If they still don't eat it in the 10 mins at 5 then they wait till morning again. Absolutely nothing in between and I never fall for those big brown eyes either. :D
