Boosters

I was looking around other forums and noticed that there was a topic about boosters and the majority were saying they don't give their dogs their annual boosters or regularly worm there dogs. I have always been strict on doing this and just wondered what our members do?

I don't and actually just had a bit of an argument about this with the vet nurse when Kane went in to sort his ear infection out. She said she noticed that he was overdue for them and that if we didn't get them by a certain date that they would have to start all over again with the series of 3 to build him up again. I said about immunity levels and she said noway so i said that if she wanted to draw blood and conduct a test for titer levels to prove he didn't still have immunity levels at her own cost I would get the vaccine. It is widely known that most dogs immunity can last up to 3 or even 4 years. Also quite a few of the diseases the vaccines are supposed to protect against are never come into contact with, the vaccines can actually create the diseases in some dogs and there is a risk of cancer forming at the injection site.

Krissi, did you ever get that book I mention on holistic dog care? It covers this topic as well and has some interesting stuff on it and the alternatives.

No I have no debit cards so can't buy of the net. Very annoying, really want to read it. Have mentioned it to my local book shop but he was no help at all!!

Those of you that dont have your dogs vaccinated, how do you go about kenneling them if you go away? Dont all boarding kennels require vaccinations?

I thought so when we looked into it we had to provide Roxys puppy book showing all her boosters and kennel cough jabs.

I did have to start from scratch with Boris cause his boosters were really overdue but since then i've always kept up with their boosters and worming

You can't not give anything at all, it's either vaccines or a holistic alternative. With people becoming more aware of possible risks, surely some kennels must recognize alternative methods with proof from a holistic vet. I haven't looked into all aspects since Kane has just come due. We are looking for a holistic vet near us.

If I remember rightly my two girls insurance company say that they must be vaccinated regulary as part of the conditions of their cover.
