Maddie is on a diet
Took Maddie to vets other day cuz her other ear was bad and vet has told me she needs a diet she is 18kg and should be 14kg. I was giving her 2 meals a day and a couple of bono's vet told me bono is like us having a mars bar. So maddie is on a diet now she doesn't seem happy about it but noticed she struggling to walk her normal distance now so it best for her. I'll have to give her a weekly weigh in dog-watchers lol

Re: Maddie is on a diet
When I went to the vet last April for Murdoch's jabs, she told me that he was (and I quote) "verging on being a bit fat". I just made sure that I measured out his food properly (which I really wasn't doing) and that treats got a bit rarer. This year the vet pronounced him "perfect". So don't worry too much - although I love the idea of a dog-watchers class!

Oooh I give my girls bono. No wonder they are slightly on the tubby side. I have cut it way down now though and walking them more. They are vulchers though when anyone's eating in the house but it's for the best. Poor Maddy lol

Don't put your dog on a diet. Diets by their very nature are temporary. You need to adjust your dogs lifestyle and change the way you feed and exercise permanently.

Re: Maddie is on a diet
When I was getting weight of off Dixie, I cut her food back slightly, no treats other than when we were training, a carrot a day and upped her exercise.
I had to up her exercise gradually as she was soo unfit.
Now she is fitter and can keep up with us and Roco she is fed her normal amount of food.
She was 24kg when we got her she is now 19kg and that I belive is a perfect weight for her.
This is her now...

I'm not going to put maddie on a diet to let her go back to old ways when she lost weight, it is a a life style change permanently.
Anyway it is working she as gone back to doing her usually walk without stopping and will be weighing her in a bit to see how she done on the scales

Re: Maddie is on a diet
Excellent - keep up the good work - the key thing is that Maddie is fit and well, and if you can see an improvement in her fitness already, then you're well on your way.

Re: Maddie is on a diet
Jadey is still a bit porky. She gets loads of excersise off the lead now and I now measure her food which I didn't do before. Its not come down as quick as I would've liked but we'll get there in the end. I'm sure Maddie will trim down in no time.
Dixie looks ace Nikki - you should be well proud!xx

Re: Maddie is on a diet
That's great. How's she been with you changing her eating? Has she taken to it alright or has she been scrounging for snacks more?
Reason I'm asking is that I'm cutting way down on snacks for my two, Angel & Yazmin, but they always go to their cupboard (they have their own cupboard in kitchen with their food, snacks etc in it) and are vocal about wanting snacks, but if you give them their main food instead of course they don't want it.

They definately do My girls stand and stare at us until we finish, even though they either have a full belly or bowl full of their own food sitting out!

That's my girls too I be embarrassed when walking them sometimes as they snufty along the ground searching for stuff as we mostly walk past a group of shops along our route which include, a chinese, a chippy & a kebab house!
So I'm now dragging them along when we pass them, making sure that Angel isn't finding any beef burgers etc to munch on due to her beef & lamb allergy
