Harness or Collar Empty Harness or Collar

Post by Guest Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:23 am

Jade has both but hates wearing her harness. She will be all excited about going for a walk until she sees it then her tail goes between her legs and her face looks like a slapped bum!!
Shes not too bad on the lead and doesn't pull too much so its ok. She has a long flexi lead so she can have a good sniff without pulling me over!!

Has anyone else's dogs behaved like that with their harnesses or is it just my spoilt little brat??!!xx

Harness or Collar Empty Re: Harness or Collar

Both mine walk better on harnesses. With their pallet being higher up than alot of breeds, if they tend to pull with just a coller they tend to end up nearly choking themselves...

Mine aren't to bad on collars but i think you have alot more control if they wearing a harness

I usually use a harness for Roxy as she doesn't seem to mind choking herself! I feel I have a lot more control over her in a harness to.

Both Bonnie and Max use a harness, Bonnie will choke herself if she uses a collar too.

Harness or Collar Empty Re: Harness or Collar

Kane hates the harness and won't run when wearing it. He also pulls the most when in the harness. He also pulls in a regular flat collar too and no amount of correcting stops it so I usually have him in a choke collar which he never seems to pull in the slightest in and only rarely needs the mildest of correction with. Personally I think it's down to early training and correction with the pulling and when I had my 1st rottie years back I was not her 1st owner and was told to never walk her on a lead longer than 3 ft. or she would take me for a dragging and that she couldn't be trained otherwise from it. Wrong!! A few short lessons and she was a dream to walk. I have also used the head halter with great success on other dogs I have trained.

Harness or Collar Empty Re: Harness or Collar

Mista walks on his harness as when he was under he wouldnt walk on a collar, also i have more control over him on the harness. Missy on the other hand pulls on both harness and collar. We tend to walk her on the head halter as we can keep her head up and she dosnt pull as much. She also has a habbit if spinning a lot, we think this is just nerves due to her being attacked while she was on the lead, and not been able to stop her since.

I use a head collar on Murdoch - otherwise he just pulls and chokes himself. He doesn't like it though and is generally trying to nuzzle it off his face!

I use harnesses on my 2, I find its less stresfull on the dog and I have much more control over them. They do have collars but only for show.
