Angel's visit to the vets today... Empty Angel's visit to the vets today...

Post by p1nkangel Sat May 17, 2008 7:52 am

You may remember reading in a previous post of mine about my concerns on Advocate where I mentioned Angel's constant itching.

Well it was really worrying me as Yazmin had stopped itching completely & Angel was scratching pretty constantly. So I phoned the vets this morning & luckily they were able to squeeze Angel in for an appointment.

Vet said her coat is in great condition, no fleas, so think it could be a skin allergy as her skin feels dry. I mentioned that we had been getting some work done to the house very recently as in plastering & vet said this could have iritated her skin. I had thought about this as we the house has been mega dusty due to the plastering & its taking ages to get rid of it all.

So I've to bath her twice a week for a month with a hypoallergenic shampoo I got from the vet & add oil drops to her food to sort out the moisture in her skin which I've to pick up from vets on tuesday. If that doesn't work we have to start eliminating things to narrow down the allergy. Poor wee Angel, the scratching does drive her nuts.

Oh & I mentioned to the vet about her scooting & anal glands & she cleaned her out today. Wasn't much there the vet said but whoa did it smell icky.

So I'm hoping its been the plaster dust that's been annoying her & the shampoo & drops will work.

Just glad its nothing really serious Angel's visit to the vets today... 126367

Poor Angel, hopefully it was just the plaster and the irritation will die down soon x

Bless her - I hope she gets ok soon! Have you got much work left to do in the house?

I know what you mean about the anal glands - certainly cleared the sinuses!!

Have you got any new carpets at all? That can sometimes cause real probs for dogs with sensitive skin.

krissi - i know poor wee Angel, feel so bad for her

claire - all dirty work is done. we just have to paint now

debs - no new carpets. we tiled the whole bottom floor from livingroom to kitchen right through. we had to get walls & ceilings plastered & as soon as we clean more dust settles. its been a real dirty/dusty few months.
its not as bad as it was but you can feel the dust like a weird coating when you pet the girls. Angel must have sensitive skin because Yazmin is ok. But they both seem to have different feeling fur. Angel is really soft where Yazmin is a tad coarse.

I just hope it clears up for her real soon xo

Just a quickie - as you all know I took Jade to the vets a couple of weeks ago to have her anal glands done. Since then she is still leaving smelly 'deposits' sometimes where she sits! I have noticed that she is doing this more than she did before she had the glands done. No more scooting but the smell is definately the same as when the vets emptied the glands......any ideas anyone?xx

hi claire i found this on wikipedia
"The glands can spontaneously empty, especially under times of stress, and create a very sudden unpleasant change in the odor of the dog."

If she isn't stressed I've read others people's info on net where either their dog's glands are infected, its to do with their food or some just need done regularly...and it even tells you how to do it on some! Eugh!

Sorry I can't be of more help. xo

She doesn't seem to be stressed when it happens - usually shes asleep or snuggled up on my lap!!!! Angel's visit to the vets today... 550718

Think I'd rather put up with the smell than attempt to clear them myself!!!! xx

Anal gland abscesses must be lanced by a vet, and antibiotics are usually given to the pet for seven to 14 days. Using warm compresses on the area often helps to relieve some of the pain and reduce swelling.

I found this on another forum for you hunni x
